When I was 20 I decided to take my strength training seriously (after just going in and doing whatever weight I wanted and hitting a plateau). I researched into what would be best for me and my schedule. I found this PDF workout sheet and followed it and have put on 30kg on my Squat in 8 weeks. It's nice and simple and easy to maintain. It's 3 workouts a week and it doesn't impact my performances on weekends or in mid-week sessions on the field. Keep it simple and you can't go wrong!
